Resolução comentada
Cada lacuna pede uma preposição de tempo ou de lugar. Vamos preencher uma a uma:
- "I don't study chemistry ___ Monday": dias da semana usam on → on Monday.
- "David and Clara have been married ___ 2001": 2001 é um ponto fixo no tempo, o início da situação que dura até hoje. Com o present perfect, usa-se since → since 2001.
- "She will arrive at the airport ___ 9 pm": horários exatos usam at → at 9 pm.
- "He lives ___ New York": cidades usam in → in New York.
- "John and Carol have been married ___ three years": three years é uma duração (período de tempo), então usa-se for → for three years.
A sequência é: on – since – at – in – for.
Comparando com as alternativas, ela corresponde à letra B.
Alternativa B.
Pegadinha: A confusão clássica é entre since (ponto de partida, 2001) e for (duração, three years), que as alternativas A e D invertem.
Por que as outras alternativas estão erradas
- Ausa "in" com Monday e "on" com 9 pm, quando o correto é "on Monday" e "at 9 pm"; também inverte "for" e "since".
- Cusa "on" com 9 pm e "in" com three years; o certo é "at 9 pm" e "for three years".
- Dusa "in" com Monday, "for" com 2001 e "on" com New York, todos errados.
