One man in a boat

L.G. Alexander

Fishing is my favourite sport. I often fish for hours without catching anything. But this does not worry me. Some fishermen are unlucky. Instead of catching fish, they catch old boots and rubbish. I am even less lucky. I never catch anything - not even old boots. After having spent whole mornings on the river, I always go home with an empty bag. “You must give up fishing!” my friends say. “It’s a waste of time.” But they don’t realize one important thing. I’m not really interested in fishing. I am only interested in sitting in a boat and doing nothing at all!

Resolução comentada

A expressão at all aparece em "doing nothing at all".

Compare com outros usos: I don't like it at all (não gosto nem um pouco) e Is there any milk at all?

Logo, at all serve para dar ênfase.

Alternativa C.

Por que as outras alternativas estão erradas

  • AReferir-se a alguém seria função de um pronome ou nome, e at all não aponta para nenhuma pessoa.
  • BAt all não indica lugar, ao contrário de at the river ou in a boat.
  • DNão indica tempo, ao contrário de at night ou for hours, e aqui reforça nothing.

Assunto: Expressões idiomáticas e phrasal verbs.
